An attractive, sparkling white smile enhances your appearance, creating a lasting impression, which is why Tooth Whitening is the most commonly prescribed cosmetic dental procedure.
Tooth Whitening is the process of lightening the colour of your teeth and removing staining and discolouration. It is a fast, effective and safe way to enhance the appearance of your smile with a supervised, whitening system all done from the comfort of your own home.
When supervised by a Dentist, Tooth Whitening has proven to be a safe and effective method to rejuvenate the colour of your smile.
The process is quick and simple;
- before treatment, Dr Gill will check your teeth and gums are healthy and suitable for whitening, existing, fillings, veneers or crowns will not change colour, we will discuss the need for replacing these,
- moulds are taken of your teeth and custom-made plastic trays are made that provide a close fit around your teeth to get the best results,
- at Goodall Dental Practice we use SDI Pola – one of the most popular whitening systems, which offers the choice of using the whitening gel over-night or during the day,
- at your second visit we check the fit of the trays and show you how to apply the gel, you can choose to have your first application done by us and walk out with your discrete trays in place,
The effects of whitening can last up to three years. However, this varies for each person. The effect is less likely to last as long if you smoke, or eat or drink products that can stain your teeth. Tooth whitening does not damage or change the structure of your teeth, some people may find that their teeth become sensitive to cold during or after the treatment. These symptoms are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.
This treatment is primarily used to remove staining built up on the teeth caused from smoking, tea, coffee, red wine and other food stuffs, consumed over a long period of time.
Although this is not strictly a whitening treatment, patients have commented on how much cleaner and whiter their teeth appeared after this treatment. The treatment is quick and painless. The process takes about 15-30minutes, depending on the amount of staining.
The system works by air, water and sodium bicarbonate particles being projected at high pressure onto the tooth surface- like a jet wash for the teeth. The treatment is non-damaging to the tooth surface
